Kamala Harris

Kamala Devi Harris is an American politician from the United States. Born on October 20, 1964, she was the 49th Vice-President of the United States. Kamala Devi Harris is the first female vice president and is the highest ranking female official in U.S history. As a member the Democratic Party, she was the former attorney general of California in 2011-2017 and a United States senator representing California in 2017-2021. Harris was born in Oakland and graduated from Howard University, University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Her first job was with the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Harris was later promoted to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003 she was elected district attorney of San Francisco. She was elected Attorney-General of California in 2010 and was reelected in 2014. Between 2017 and 2021, Harris was the junior United States senator for California. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez in the 2016 Senate election, becoming the 2nd African American woman and the first South Asian American to serve in the United States Senate. As senator, Harris fought for federal de-scheduling of healthcare, and the legalization of cannabis, a path to citizenship of undocumented immigrants, as well as the DREAM Act which bans assault weapons. National attention was gained for her sharp questioning of Trump administration officials at Senate sessions. The most notable was Trump's second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh who was accused of sexual misconduct.
